White House officials are urging China to leverage its influence over Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz ahead of a summit between US President Trump and Chinese President Xi. US Secretary of State Rubio emphasized the need for China to pressure Iran during Foreign Minister Araghchi's visit. The closure of the strait is impacting China's economy, which relies heavily on oil imports. The US is also seeking China's support in a UN resolution regarding the strait. The situation is critical as it affects international maritime traffic and regional stability.
