A new parliamentary committee in Turkey has been formed to oversee a peace initiative with the Kurdish militant group PKK, marking progress towards ending a long-standing insurgency. The committee, consisting of members from major parties, aims to propose legal and political reforms following the PKK's decision to disband and lay down arms. Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş described the committee's launch as a historic turning point. The PKK's disbandment follows a call from its leader Abdullah Öcalan, who has been imprisoned since 1999.
