Two elephants, Fah Sai and Ploy Thong, died in a flood at a sanctuary in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Rescuer Sangduean Chailert described Fah Sai as playful and a strong swimmer, while Ploy Thong, who was blind, struggled to navigate the floodwaters. Chailert rescued Ploy Thong from a life of begging when she was three. Both elephants were buried near where they were found, with pink trumpet trees planted in their memory. The flooding in Chiang Mai affected multiple animal shelters and required evacuations.
