In Nepal, clashes between protesters demanding the restoration of the monarchy and police resulted in at least two deaths and several injuries. The protests occurred in Kathmandu, organized by supporters of former King Gyanendra Shah. A peaceful rally turned violent when some protesters collided with police barricades. The government imposed a curfew in response. Counter-protests supporting the republican system were also held, led by opposition figures. Calls for Gyanendra's reinstatement and the return of Hinduism as a state religion have been increasing, despite the former king's lack of immediate prospects for regaining power.
