A National Literacy Trust study reveals that more children prefer audiobooks (42.3%) over reading (34.6%). The survey, involving 66,008 children in the UK, indicates a decline in reading for pleasure since 2019, with only a third enjoying reading in their free time. Audiobooks are seen as beneficial for relaxation and understanding stories, with a notable increase in imaginative engagement. The NLT calls for audiobooks to be integrated into the national curriculum to combat the reading crisis.
