The UK's Royal Ballet and Opera has cancelled its 2026 production of Puccini’s Tosca in Tel Aviv after nearly 200 staff condemned the company's perceived hypocrisy regarding the Gaza conflict. An open letter from 182 staff members criticized the RBO's silence on Israel's actions and its decision to stage Turandot in Israel. The letter also referenced a protest by performer Daniel Perry, who displayed a Palestinian flag during a performance, leading to a confrontation with RBO's Director of Opera, Oliver Mears. The staff called for accountability for Mears and urged the RBO to respond to the situation in Gaza with the same urgency it showed for Ukraine.
