US President Donald Trump announced a military strike against a boat from Venezuela allegedly carrying drugs, resulting in three deaths. He emphasized the threat posed by drug cartels to national security and hinted at expanding military actions. Venezuelan President Maduro condemned the strike, accusing the US of using drug trafficking as a pretext for military intervention. Concerns about the legality of the strikes have been raised by some senators and human rights groups, questioning the justification for military actions against drug smugglers.
