The recent Euronews summit highlighted the urgency of EU enlargement amidst geopolitical instability. Leaders emphasized that expanding the Union is a necessity, with frustrations over vetoes hindering the process. Key figures like António Costa and Maia Sandu stressed the importance of inclusion for stability, while others criticized vetoes as unfair. The idea of a probation period for new members was rejected, with leaders insisting on full membership rights. The summit also saw pushback against the European Commission's criticisms of candidate countries' progress.
