Fernando Clavijo, the president of the Canary Islands, rejected the Spanish government's decision to bring the MV Hondius cruise ship, affected by a hantavirus outbreak, to the archipelago. Clavijo criticized the lack of information regarding the outbreak and questioned the need for the ship's transfer from Praia, Cabo Verde. The WHO reported seven cases linked to the outbreak, including three deaths. Clavijo called for a meeting with Spanish officials to discuss the decision, which he believes does not ensure the health safety of the Canary Islands. Meanwhile, Cabo Verde is preparing to evacuate three patients affected by the outbreak using ambulance planes.
