The eviction of 87-year-old Maricarmen Abascal has highlighted Spain's ongoing housing crisis, where skyrocketing rents and property prices are straining household budgets. Recent statistics reveal that a significant portion of renters are spending over 40% of their income on housing, exacerbated by a lack of new housing construction in high-demand areas. The concentration of rental properties among large landlords and investment funds further complicates the situation, as population growth continues to outpace housing supply.
