Alex, who had been living a nomadic lifestyle with his mother Melanie and grandfather David, retraces his journey for a BBC documentary titled 'Kidnapped by My Mum.' After years of searching, he returned to live with his legal guardian, grandmother Susan Caruana, in Oldham. The police investigation into his disappearance was eventually closed due to lack of evidence and family support.
