Italian cardinal Angelo Becciu has decided to withdraw from the upcoming conclave to elect a successor to Pope Francis, citing the good of the Church and his love for the late pontiff. Becciu was convicted of embezzlement in 2023 but is appealing the decision. His withdrawal is seen as a move to spare the Church from further scandal. The affair has raised questions about the credibility of Pope Francis's reforms and the management of Vatican finances, particularly regarding a controversial property deal in London.
