The ambitious Franco-German Future Combat Air System (FCAS) project, intended to develop a next-generation European fighter jet, has officially ended after months of negotiations and repeated delays. Its collapse was primarily due to bitter disputes between defence companies Airbus and Dassault over control, intellectual property, and revenue, alongside differing military requirements between France and Germany. While the fighter jet component is halted, work on the 'combat cloud' is expected to continue, with Airbus exploring new partnerships and Dassault likely pursuing its own Rafale successor.
