British scientists from Pulsar Fusion have achieved the first plasma ignition in a nuclear fusion rocket engine, marking a significant advancement towards faster space travel, particularly to Mars. The milestone was revealed during a live stream at Amazon's MARS Conference, hosted by Jeff Bezos. The test demonstrated the potential of fusion propulsion, which could provide up to 1,000 times more thrust than current rocket engines, significantly reducing travel time to Mars from months to weeks. The company plans further testing and upgrades to enhance the Sunbird system's performance.
