The European Commission has urged EU member states to reallocate regional funds towards water resilience, affordable housing, and defence, while emphasizing that funding for weaponry is prohibited. This mid-term evaluation assesses nearly €370 billion for the 2021-2027 period, aiming to adapt to new challenges. Member states can redirect funds to five key areas: competitiveness, decarbonisation, defence, affordable housing, and energy transition.
